One of the biggest draws of the Ndutu Region is witnessing the iconic Great Migration. Within the Ndutu Region lies Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most significant paleoanthropological sites.
From the return of the herds in December, calving in January and February, and then departure again in April, this park provides a window into the lives of these migrating animals. Calving season is particularly dramatic; a million wildebeest give birth to an astounding 8,000 babies every day! However, as these newborns take their first steps, they’re targeted by opportunistic big cats, wild dogs, and hyenas.
